Do all laser engravers work on metal?
As a common material in industrial production and daily life, metal is widely used in many industries, such as advertising industry, handicraft industry, etc. Metal needs to be drilled, cut, and engraved. Currently on the market, machines that can be used to engrave metal are mainly CO2 engraving machines and laser engraving machine.
CO2 engraving machine
CO2 engraving technology is an older metal engraving technology. It can be used to engrave metal, but you cannot use it directly on metal because the laser light is easily reflected by the smooth metal surface. Therefore, the metal surface needs to be treated with a marking solution before using CO2 to engrave metal. Besides, CO2 engraving machines require more power to operate. According to our test results, CO2 engraving machines need more power than fiber engraving machines when engraving the same material, which makes CO2 engraving machines more expensive to operate.
Fiber Laser
Fiber lasers are more efficient and powerful machines than CO2 lasers and have now become the best method for engraving some metals, such as stainless steel. Fiber lasers are a good choice if you need to engrave metals quickly and with high precision. They can engrave metals such as stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium at a much faster rate than CO2 lasers. Fiber lasers are also typically more powerful, so they can engrave metals deeper and mark metals that CO2 lasers can't, such as stainless steel. For metal engraving needs that require speed and efficiency, fiber lasers may be the best choice for you.
Conclusion
Both CO2 engraving machines and fiber engraving machines can spare over processing metal, but the fiber laser is superior to the CO2 engraving machine in terms of accuracy, speed, efficiency, etc.
